Tour Horse Race That Serves as Feature at Havre de Grace Is Well Contested Astute Repeats in Steeplechase, Baltimore, Md.. November 2a. Racing at Havre do Grace this afternoon brought out a good crowd and the siort was highly interesting. The Princeton Selling Stakes, six furlongs, was the stake number of the urogram. It was reduced from an original overnight entry list of seven to four starters, 4 but was a good betting race withal. Three of the four were almost equally favored. Irairie being the outsider. The held ran closely bundled for a six li teenth of a mile. Then Butwell sent Crossbun to t tlie front. The Belmont cast-off was leading by ;, open daylight when she turned for home, but the c last furiong she weakened, and Sherwood, coming l fast on the outside, wore her down and won going i away. Crossbun .saved second place from Striker. t Seven went to the- post in the steeplechase, witii j Idle Michael ruling the public choice. Wooltex showed the wav for a turn and a half of the field, t then Idle Michael went to the front, but only for a i brief peiiod. Syosset. closer up than usual, passed t Idle .Michael before the turn into the Hat was i reached and came home an easy winner, while Idle r Michael . tiring badly, surrendered second place to l Orowoc, which ran in the colors of Mike Daly, Jor.u . Whaien having recently sold her. i A better iinisli. than that which attended the open- t ing race has rarely been seen. It was a big tiell I that paraded to the iost and there were a number of "good things." Mrs. Campbell, running for R. 1 E. AVatkins, was the pacemaker to the stretch turn, with J. It. Harrell in closest pursuit and 1 Mocllcka always well up. Straightened for home, half a dozen of the contenders closed up and it was a hot race to the wire. Meelicka was in close quar- l ters, but Laffertv managed to drive her through and i she won the race by beating Sunno a head, with the ; latter in turn a like distance before Mrs. Campbell, i Sunno probablv would have won with good racing . luck. He was away back in the early stages and i closed with a rush. J il It. E. AVatkins and J. S. Ownbey will ship their I fstables from- here to Charleston tomorrow. H. G. i Jftedwcl frond J. O. Jockey Coleman was jammed against the fence in the fourth race and injured his leg so badly that llinphv was substituted for him on Mmila, favorite for the tiftli. .Toekev Butwell has signed a contract to ride next season "for Andrew Miller and Foxhall Keene, both of whom have horses in the public stable trained by A. .1.
