PLENTY OF HORSES FOR CHARLESTON. Somo 250 Already Quartered at South Carolina Course and 300 More to Come. Charleston. S. C November 23. With nine days intervening until the opening of racing here, Charleston is already taking on a hustling sporting air. due to the many" turfmen already here. If the advance guard is a criterion, the present racing season will be patronized by an extensive following. Local interest is also keen. Over 250 horses are now quartered at the course and at least 300 more are expected from Havre de Grace during the next week. The special trains from that point in Maryland will leave November lS and 2ti. The H. G. Bedwell horses here number thirty-eight, and that owner will ship sixteen more from Havre de Grace, which will give him a string of liftv-four racers in training for the coming meeting. Among the latest arrivals here are T. P. Hayes and G. W. J. Bissell. who shipped their strings from Lexington. Ky. Other newcomers include tin; stables of Hugh McCarreu and J. T. Wentwortu. lKith from Victoria. I.. C. They report a lengthy trip, having been on the road for ten days. Their horses shipped fairly well. Jockey J. Collins departed this morning for Louisville, where he will remain during the winter. The track is in excellent condition for training purposes and the plant in general is being thoroughly overhauled and will be in vastly better chape than in former seasons. A 1ig force of workmen is now employed and they will complete their labors in a few days. Secretary Nathanson is receiving additional applications for stall. room daily and there will be no shortage of racing material. General Manager Fred Auoibaeh arrived this morning ; from Jacksonville to remain for the rest of the season.
