RAIN FALLS IN THE SOUTH MUD RUNNERS WILL GET AN OPPORTUNITY , AT PALMETTO PARK TODAY. Charleston Meeting Enters Upon Its Third Week with Growing Interest Manifested in Sport Pool Leading the Jockeys. Charleston. S. C. December 13. Mondays card at Palmetto Iarl: will be decided over a Heavy anl ho.a-iug track. Kain which began to fall early Sunday morning showed no. signs or abating tonight. Mud runners of a pronotmml type will be given the call in the sis race card offered to the partons. Largo and well balanced lields are -arded to face the starter in the different races, but the change in the going probably will produce many scratches. The meeting is on the threshold of its third week and has shown Improvement daily. Large fields have been facing the starter, and competition has been keen. Favorites have failed to gariu-r their share of the purses, but the majority of the winners have been liberally supported. Speculation has increased in volume. A notable feature of the past week was the increased attendance at the track each afternoon. The local public have shown an appreciation of the efforts of the management to supply high class sport by patronizing the course more frequently. The experiment of offering two ladies days during the past week resulted in two large gatherings of the fair sex to witness the racing as guests or the management. K. B. Watkins announced yesterday that he would ship the two-year-old Boxer and Harry Shaw to Grnvcsend for a rest until the spring .season in Maryland." -The remainder of his string will be campaigned at one of the winter tracks at the completion of this meeting. The-" stewards are still after the rough riders. The Cincinnati apprentice, E. Pool, still heads the list of -winning riders, although his leading margin has been decreased materially during the past few days. .
