NOTES OF THE TURF William Walkers horses which raced at Havana hnve arrived at Toronto and are stabled at Wood bine He brought nine back including Sherlock Holme Cntlyhnuk And Trust Banjo Jim and the twoyoarolds Miss Fay W A Rice William W and Larkiu LarkiuLeonard Leonard Jacob has turned Xellwood and Adven ¬ turess over to James K Frayling to train They arc being galloped at the Piping Rock training track and both will bo ready for the openin meet In of the eastern hunt club circuit which will be at IHwlett Park on Saturday May 1 Sandow is another that Frayling is making ready This is one of the Piping Rock Subscription colts and is owned by Mortimer L Schiff IIu jumps like a veteran and it may be that he will make up across country for somu OL bis disappointments on the Hat HatThere There is a plan afooot in Saratoga to make the Casino built by the late Richard Canfleld on a pretentious scale the ientcr of the social life of that village this summer The building which is owned by tho village has been used for semi weekly dances during tho last three years but no effort has been made to provide further enter ¬ tainment for the visitors This season however it is likely the Casino will be tiirniMl over to a Now York social manager who will keep the pluv simmoring with constant activities A restaurant will he installed in the building and dancing will be held every evening eveningBeach Beach Lawrence son of the Into J G K Law ¬ rence who for many years was closely identified with the Jockey Club and the Coney Island Jockey Club recently won a race at the bunt nuoting at Warrenton Va with Brownie Girl The race was a twomile steeplechase and the mare was ridden by Dick SalTol an old time jockey over the fences Mr Lawrence now makes his home in Virginia and takes a keen interest in the hunt meetings hold In that state J K Maddux is another sports ¬ man who saddled a winner at Wirronton his colors Iviiig borne by Miss Oxford one of his own breed ing and a daughter of Oxford the famous gray that won so many races for James MeLanglilin A few years ago Mr Maddux raced on the Jotkey Club tracks Ho was also much interested in hunt Ing having a pack of his own registered as Mr Madduxs hounds
