JUAREZ RACING NEAR ITS OPENING. Hundreds of Horses in the Stables and Patrons . Crowding the Hotels of El Paso. Jiurez. Mexico. Noveiulier 20. — Next Thnrsiay. Ihe twenty -fifth. Thanksgiving Kay. the one hundred or more days of racing begins at the Jockey Club Juarez track for tlie winter season of 1915-15. The • first winter meeting at the Juarez course, in l!»09-lo. ran for seventy-one racing days. Since then every meeting here has run for more than one huudred days, the record being scored last winter and spring, when the meeting ran for one hundred and twentv-two racing days. Everything is now in readiness at lie track. The stables now house dose to siv hundred horses and faces familiar to turf circles throng the streets of El Paso and crowd the rotundas of tlie hotels. The grounds at the Juarez enurso were never more lieautifnl thau at the present time. The autumn in this section has been ideal and. as a eouso-o,ucnoe. the lawns are as green and bright in verdure as in early spring time. Painters have touched up all the dull pla«-es on the buildings of the plaul and the walks and roadways are as clean and clear of dirt and dust as sweepers and sprinklers can make thetu. Before leaving Kentucky for Juarez F. I . Weir went out to the farm, where they are turned out. to look over Hawthorn and Little Nephew, with a view of purchasing tbeui and bringing them to the Juarez track to race. Botli are. at present, rather doubtful racing propositons and Weir decided that, at the prices their respective owners asked for hem. it would lie a rather risky investment. This vear both bled at times in their races and this ail-inent. with their other infirmities, makes it probable that their racing careers are about over. Weir lias six yearlings now in his training barn at the Juarez course. They are: Black colt by Plaudit— Bluejacket, dam of Blue Jay. Brown colt by Out of Reach — Miss McMeekin. by Foiiko. Brown filly by Ben Trovato — Belle of Mayfield, by Saville. Chestnut filly by Marta Santa— Bessie Simpson. Irv IVcelver. Brown filly bv Ben Trovato— S. G. P.. by Wagner. Chestnut fillv bv Cvelades — Beona S.. by Buskin II. Trainer Weir brought no yearlings with him to Juarez Bast winter, but every other year he has been here, lie has had a band of youngsters of this age and always enjoved a good racing season with tlieui. It was at Juarez that Old Rosebud first wore colors and left here with an unbeaten record tar Kentucky to run his famous races with Little Nephew. The great gelding is now liere doing veil in bis training and it is n v more than proh able, after some racing here next winter, he will go baek to Kentucky tlie same champion of old. Wbvsl interest, which is How a member of Mose Goldblatts big stable here, was tlie first entry last year in the 0. HX» Dorval Derby, which was de .-lured off on aeeoiiut of the great foreign war. He "as then still owned l»y his breeder. B. F. Guthrie. the Shelbyville. Ky.. turfman. Goldblatt lias eleven horses here this winter, while last year his Juarez stable consisted of only six. Some of the horsemen, who took in the recent meeting at San Fran-ris.-o, have been telling Goldblatt that his speedy *priutcr Othello will have his work cut out whenever he meets Loftus. which was once a member of J. B. Respess stable. Tlie Cincinnati horseman, however, only smiles when the merits of Loftus are sung, as be says if the son of Dick Welles proves too much for the black horse, why then he will eall on Iron Mask to uphold the reputation of the , stable. S. M. Henderson has only one yearling in the stable of eigl-t horses he now has here. This is the . brown fillv bv Salvation — La Beine Empress, by Emperor «f Norfolk. This youngster is a sister to Sal Vanity, which has won eight races this year and belougs to the family of Beckon and the hitters good son Compute. Henderson turind out for the winter his good filly Tory Maid and Langhorne. : The latter had to !«■ fired to give him a chance to race next spring. He thinks the winters rest will greatly benefit both of these horses. Jake Inienset ter, after coming as far as Chicago , with ill-- horses he shipped 1o the Juarez track, went on to Lincoln. Neb., to ylsit his old home there. He expects i„ pjefc m, some hordes during the meeting . here, which is the reason be only sent four of his Kentucky string here t« race. He will be here for the opening on Thanksgiving Bay. Imensetter say« !■ • made more money with Lady Panchita than any horse he has ever raced. He could still race her. but sl-e will lie nine years old in the spring and so he left her at Waldcek Farm in Kentucky. Tlie daughter of tigden lias run her last race. He is anxious to gel a colt bv Golden Maxim from her and she will he in? tod to that horse until she produces such a foal. Lady PawMta raeed for seven vcars and won every year she was on the turf. She started in a total of M race*, of which she won 51. was seeond 38 and third M Usees. Her turf earnings total 1 ."-17. Her record by years is given in the table below; Tear. Ag ». He also ha at his Texas breeding plant in the stud the champion two-inile horse Everett, but the oldest of his get are now weanlings. Of tlie mares bred to Orb last spring all are young in stud years. One of the number is Trade Mark, which was brought to Juarez last winter and entered by other than her own name in a race. As i she bad previously figured in ringing jobs on other tracks, the Juarez stewards ruled her esT ami branding her uiide it iu.ipo-.siMc f ir her to race again. TlieV. however, consented to her sale for hre.-dilif purposes, so m hen she was put up al public sale, trainer Ve-tal bought her for Dr. Clark. She is il t richly bred daughter of Broomstick and will probably make a. .od as a producer. Capt. B. C. Buubuiy will not reach the Juarez track for some time after the meeting o|iens, but will be on band in time to start bis good filly I j Honey Cud in the Texas Futurity. This event whs run last year on Sunday. December 27. and will probably lie run this year on the Sunday following _ Christmas, which will be December SB. J. W. Fuller has also several promising eligiblcs to this j race. ,
