Blacksheep Outstays Viroo in the First Race of the Day and Rey Proves a Surprise in the Second — Mercurium Takes His Race. El Paso. Tex.. December 12. — A handicap for all ages at three-quarters was the chief offering in a racing way at the Jockey Club Juarez track this afternoon. As usual on Sundays, the patronage was of goodly proportions. The handicap was contested by a quintet of the best sprinters on the grounds and proved easy for the odds-on favorite. Conning Tower. It was the Shilling geldings fourth victory In as - many starts since the opening of tbe Juarez meeting and it is evident that he is in superb form. He ran away from his opponents today with ease in the fastest run race of the meeting. Kootenay was in second place and Othello was third. The talent started off right foot foremost when Blacksheep won the opener in a drive with Vireo. Rey, an outsider, led all the way in the second. Henry Walbank was the favorite and was at no time prominent in tbe running of the race. Oldsmobile was held in highest esteem for the third race, but Mercurium dashed into tbe lead with tbe rise of tbe barrier and, try as he could. Oldsmobile was unequal to the task of overtaking him. The fifth race yielded up the second winning outsider of the afternoon in Kid Nelson, which made the pace from start to finish. Jefferson Livingstons colors were carried to victory in the closing dash by Kris Kringle. The largest crowd, of the meeting was in attendance.
