Brookfield Runs the Fastest Mile of the Meeting To Bate Before a Big Crowd. El Paso, Texas, December 25. — Holiday racegoers at Juarez were entertained this afternoon by the running of a fairly good card, with a selling hau- dicap at one mile occupying the place of honor on the program. It was marked by a finish that aroused unbounded enthusiasm when Brookfield, Star of Love and Wilhite passed the judges iu the order named heads and necks apart. Brookfield had been racing indifferently of late, but was right there all the way today. Jockey Hunt, who had the mount on Wilhite. the favorite, employed his usual tactics of reserving his mount in the early running and finishing with a belated rush. Had he made his move a bit sooner lie probably would have won. The mile was run iu l:oS, which is the fastest of the meeting to date. In the two-year-old race. Brooks, from the Mc- Leniore stable, reversed the outcome of a former meeting with Doliua, and won with marked ease as an odds-ou choice. Dolina was the victim of a poor ride at the hands of jockey II. Phillips. however. Frances 8. proved best of the mediocre band that contested the opener. Mack B. Eubanks made a dismal showing at odds-on in the third, and Rosemary, starting for the first time during the meeting, led throughout by a wide margin. The fifth race went to the favorite. Metropolitan. in a head finish with Choctaw, while Upright finally found a band he could beat in the closing dash. The biggest crowd of the meeting attended today. Ike Striker has traded his Marathon filly Field Flower to Wade McLoinore for the Texas-bred youngster George. The former Striker racer will soon join the McLemore band of broodmares at the home ranch. B. A. Jones returned to his Missouri ranch for the holiday season.
