I a J 0 • a a in J 1 t v a a ■ 1, be e k i, i. e r- i- i- " * 5 Of !r is ENGLISH STALLIONS IN ARGENTINA. Reference to breeding and national studs re-o ?- minds me that several horses well known to English ih courses in their younger days figure prominently y in the seasons stallion records for the Argentine. ?• The leading sire, and easily at that, is Diamond |i Jubilee, which won tne triple crown for King ig Edward fifteen years ago. Opinions differ as to to the merits of Persimmons younger brother, judged d by the Ingest standard, but though he had his •s likes and dislikes — among the hitter being John ,u Watts and Morington Cannon — there is no question in that he was well up to the average of modern-s 1- day classic winners, even if he was not exactly an ,n Ormonde. An even better animal than Diamond id Jubilee, however, was Cyllene, which occupies third ■d place on the Argentine list — a native being second, L Cyllene was ineligible to compete in the Derby of f his particular year, the race going to the outsider »r Jeddah, but Cyllene made a rare hash of the French-:- h- man Gardefeu and others in the Cold Cup at Ascot in the following year. Following Cyllene is Val al dOr, which won the Eclipse Stakes of 1905 from m Cicero, the third and last of Lord Roseberys Derby iy heroes. Sixth position is filled by another good id turf performer in Polar Star, whose Jubilee triumph •i- as a three-year-old, with 110 pounds in the saddle, bore testimony to his ability. Colonel Hall 11 Walkers horse subsequently won the Manchester er Cup. Another expatriated English animal in Per-rier. r- which carried the royal colors, unfortunately ly without distinction, a few years ago, also fills a a prominent place in the Argentine list. — "Augur" In in Sporting Life.
