Eagle Takes the Feature Race with Ease, While Lindenthal Runs Disappointingly — Preparing for Ladies Day Crowd. New Orleans. La.. January 3. — June weather here today accounted for a aenerous patronage for the racing at the Fair Grounds. The attendance, however, fell far short of that of the opening day. The boxes and clubhouse section showed a liberal sprinkling of society folks and interest in the sport was as keen as on Saturday. The Kontuckians were again to the fore and carried away the lions share of the purses. The track, while drying rapidly, was still slow and favored those stayers with mud-running proclivities. The feature race, a mile allowance affair, was taken in easy style by F.agle from the Emil Herz stable. Herbert Temple, the extreme outsider, landed in second place, with Lindenthal third. The latter showed a disappointing performance and was never dangerous at any part of the race. The juvenile purse went to Mico Girl, running in D. W. Scotts interest. She won right lik« a good one and handled herself as if having a thorough knowledge of racing. Gifford Cot-brans Ginger Quill took second money over Conowingo. Most of the starters ran green and probably will improve. Elaborate preparations are under way by the management to entertain an immense throng tomorrow, which will be the first ladies day of the nuviing. The card of six races offered are all at a mile or over, a feature that will be observed throughout the meeting on all ladies days. There was less confusion in the palm garden to- day, the decreased attendance enabling speculators to move about with more comfort and dispatch. Those inclined to place wagers found plenty of op- portunity. The officials continue to receive laudatory and complimentary telegrams from all sections of the country. Arrivals continue steadily and the town is fairly filled with racing followers and notables in sport. Wankeog. a two-year-old filly by Ogden — Lady Vincent, owned by G. A. Cochran, was sold today at private terms by trainer W. R. Midgeley to Capt. Proase of Ottawa. J. C. Yeager will leave Havana next Wednesday and arrive here Friday. Trainer G. H.
