RACING PROSPECTS IN GERMANY. The Breslauer Zeitung of recent date contains some interesting — and. in more than one aspect, significant — speculations on the likelihood of racing taking plan- in the Gorman Empire next year. A transition uf the article is appended: "While in times of peace a delegates meeting of the German racing societies is held in connection with the last racing day of the season to arrange a program for the following years racing, nothing j has hitherto transpired — in contrast to the state of affairs in Austria-Hungary — with regard to German racing in 1916. The Technical Commission of the Union Club has desisted from calling a meeting of the delegates because no wish for such has been . expressed, and further because many of the societies j are no longer in a position to send substitutes for their representatives, who are. at present, in the field. Nevertheless, there is good ground for hope that German racing next J ear will in any case be carried on on more extensive lines than the war , races of the present year. On this account the Union Club is temporarily refraining from publishing its fixtures, since it is not at present settled which societies in th • empire will be in a position to hold meetings in 1910. "In this respect the position with us is very dif ferent from that in Austria-Hungary, where only four big racing societies have to be taken late ! account, whereas are have over a hundred. The Union Club itself contemplates arranging not only rai ,ng at the Iloppegarten. but probably also, as requests for entries to the Silver Shield and German St. Leger are already out. meetings at the Gruncn-waldbahn. through the Berlin Racing society. "A similar state of affairs prevails in regard to hurdle racing. The society for hurdle racing has in view the resumption of the sport at Karlshorst. to which would be added the hurdle races at Grunen-waldbahn. Moat probably an earlier start will be made than this year, when the resumption was made at the end of May."
