February 4. — The management of the Havre de Grace track in Maryland ha- announced that it will adopt the pari-iuutuel system of bet-- ting, instead of bookmaking. Kveiy other race track iii the state of Maryland lias adapted this course during the past two years. The Maryland I legislature, now in session, is expected to pass I I bill limiting all wagering to the mutuels. together • with a measure that will provide for a state tax-on : the gros- revenue of each track. Racing is extremely popular in Maryland and the sport will 1 not be attacked, political leaders --ay. unless hook-making is allowed to continue.
