February 4. — The management of the Hnvre de Grace track in Maryland has announced that it will adopt the pari-mutuel s stem of betting, instead of bookmaking. Kvery other race Hack in the state of Maryland has adopted this course during the past two years. The Maryland legislature, now in session, is expected to pass a bill limiting all wagering lo the mutuels. together with a measur" that will provide for a state tax on the gross u venae if each track. Racing is extremely popular in Maryland and the sport will not be attacked, politie.il leaders say. unless book-making is allowed to continue.
