Skeer Face Takes the Main Race Yesterday and Wins Mr. Wingfield His First Race of the Meeting. Xew Orleans. La., February 7. — Hard rain AaHag the night transformed the track conditiiwis again and was responsible for wholesale withdrawals from most of todays races at the Fair Grounds. Xo less than thirty-six horses were withdrawn from an entry list of eighty-one. Constant work by the harrows improved the going considerably as the afternoon progressed ami the time of the fourth race at the seven-eighths distance was surprisingly good. This race featured the card and in its original form embraced some of the best horses here. The purse was won by Skeer Face, with Greenwood and Celto in the other places. The victory of Skeer lace was the first that George W-WingUelds Nevada Stock Farm has scored at this meeting. Father Riley was again a disappointment, for he quit badly in the race. The Cochlea establishment again furnished a beaten favorite in the two-year-old race when Vel-low Sally failed to overtake Conowingo. The latter was ridden in good style by the diminutive Mc-Atee. This youngster also rode Ski er Face intelligently and had he been a hit stronger he w mid have scored with Alfadir. TJie latter saccaaabed in the last stride to Pan Handle, which enable W. Gerst to score his initial victory here. Following the running of the fourth race, jockey Motf was suspetuled for ten days by the judges for rough riding. He caused interference from which Skwr Face and Celto suffered during the running. Beginning with Monday next the post time for the first race will be 2:30 p. m. Jockey Robinson has been suspended for five days by the starter for disobedience while at the post in the fourth race. A. L. Kirby, acting for J. B. Respess. has disposed of Miss Fannie ou private terms to W. W. Woodard. It has been decided to eliminate Mardi Gims day as ladies day because of the congestion that would he entailed. Only four more ladies days will be given. For practices in violation of the policies of the Business Mens Racing Association, E. T. Crum. of St. Louis, has been denied all privileges, including admission to the grounds. In addition his license as authorized agent for E. B. Elkins has been withdrawn. Crtnn is alleged to have written a letter and signed the name of K B. Elkins to it. asking a gentleman to bet on the Elkins horses and telling him that it was he who was sending him the information. Manager Joseph A. Murphy stated that he had heard nothing officially almut the Hot Spring meeting and, that while be would have no official connection with it on account of its conflicting with his engagements in the east, he would do all hi his power to help make the meeting a success. "I have many friends at the Springs," he said, this afternoon, "as I conducted two meetings at BsaCX Park there and I would do anthing in reason lo aid them to success."
