; • I ■ • , 1 I • GENKRAL NEWS NOTES OF THE DAY. A petition asking the impeachment of Judge George A. Carpenter of the United States court al Chicago has been filed with the house judiciary committee by Representative Tinkhain of Massachusetts. Mr. Tinkhain tiled the petition at the request of Christopher F. Sweeney of Boston, one of his constituents, who charges Judge Carpenter with improper practice in connection with the Rock Island railroad receivership. Mr. Tinkham has told the members of the committee that he is not sutli-j ciently informed in the Rock Island case to say whether or not he believes the committee should act on Mr. Sweeiicy"s petition. The island of Marketi, in the Zuider Zee. fifteen miles north of Amsterdam, has been inundated by tin- severe storm thai is sweeping the North sea. Huge waves are rolling over Marken.
