MONSIEUK PEliCFS SPEED TAKES 0AKLAWN FEATURE RACE AND DE-FEATS BOB HENSLEY IN A CANTER. Three Jockeys Badly Hurt When Their Mounts Fall in the Fifth Race — Several Riders Suspended for the Meeting. Hot Springs. Ark.. March 23. — Monsieur Perci showed a sparkling performance in the mile and seventy yards handicap that featured this afternoons racing at Oaklawn and wliii-h he won in easy fashion in fast time ove-r Bob Hensley and Jack Beeves. Bob Hensley was an outstanding favorite, but tired badly after he had raced on even terms with Jack Beeves to tie- last turn. Monsieur Peiei had been under hard restraint up to tiiis point, but when called on drew into tin- lead with a rush and increased his advantage with eve-ry stride. Cool and threatening weather, with an occasional shower, had no effect on the attendance, which was again of exceptionally large proportions. The same twenty-five "information" brokers were again in line and were kept extra busy during the afternoon. A switch from joe-key Keelcris to Murphy worked a decided change- in Inia Franks running and that filly won in the easiest fashion in the opening clash. Her connections sen somewhat surprised that such a short price ruled against the filly. The- se-e-oncl race had a peculiar appearance, mainly due to the restraining tactics of jockey McEwen on Old Bob. which was taken back to last place before McEwen seemingly made any effort at riding him hard. Yallaha. the supposed good thing, had a hard time of it to outstay the badly ridden Balgee. and had Originator not propped at the start that racer would have won. M iter, on which Stearns gave a poor exhibition in her last race, made- good under Dodds riding, but her victory was assisted considerably by the action of Muriels Pe-t in forcing "apt. Ben out while racing down the back stretch. It cost the Scott rae-er much ground and hi failed to overe-ome the disadvantage in the stretch, though making a valiant effort. The running of the fifth race developed an acei-elent which was attended with serious results for at bast one joe ki y and caused the disqualification of Souvenir after that racer had finished first. The mishap came as a result of jockey T. Hayes failure to keep Souvenir straight in the last seventy yards. She Crossed Blue Cap sharply, causing the latter to fall. Gout ley had the mount on Blue Cap and he struck the ground hard. F.neoro. on which O. Gentry had the mount, and Manasse-h. ridden by C. Van Dusen. could not avoid the- prostrate horse and aNo went down. Van Dusen managed to walk away but Courley and Gentry had to be carried to the jockeys quarters, where medical attention was promptly given them. Another mishap attended the final dash, when Ingot unseated Stearns a.t the post and ran away. The others were dispatched without him. Stearns escaped with a bad shaking up. Jockey Gonrieys injuries are thought strlssM. The attending physician rushed him to a nearby hospital. It is feared that his neck is broken. .1 11 key t. Gentry sustained a bail fracture of the-e-ollar bone and is also thought to have received internal injuries. Van Dusens right collar bone-is broken and his arms badly injured. Jockey T. Hayes, win was responsible for the mishap, was suspended for the remainder of the me-eting. Jockey K. Lapaille arrived this morning, but will not be allowed to rich here. Jockey J. Dodd was suspended for six days by the- starter for disobedience at the post. Frank J. Nolan, owner of the Beve-rwyck Stable, was among the- visitors this afternoon. The ride that McBwen gave Olel Bob in the second race- earned him elcbarme-nt from the acceptance of further mounts at this mee-ting.
