BELMONT PARK TERMINAL IMPROVEMENTS. New York. April 10. — Work has been started at Belmont Park lVrniinal in preparation for the annual spring meeting of the United Hunts ■ If Association. May 13 and 17. In addition to freshening up the entire plant, a number of improvements are to be made. New brush fences are to be built on .the steeplechase course and the turf placed in the best possible condition. The steeplechase course at Belmont Park Terminal has long been considered the stif-fest in this country. The brush fences range from three feet six inches to four feet six inches in height, the former being the height of the water jump, which has a twelve -foot water hoi? beyonj. The timber course, where tiie hunter rices are run, is being rebuilt, also for the purpose of making this the stiffest of its kind on this side of the Atlantic. There will be twelve jumps to eacli mile, four being four feet four inches, and eight being four feet two inches high, some being post and rails and others board fences. Twenty-four additional boxes are to be built in front of the big grandstand, and the stand and paddock, as well as all other buildings and fences on the grounds, are to be repainted in green and white, the association rate*. This will brighten up the entire property, and furnish an ideal setting for the brilliant colors on race days. In addition to the simple stable accommodations available at nearby Belmont Park, extra room is ! oing arranged in the stable of the Turf and Fit Id Clnb. which adjoins the terminal. Extra facilities for the parking of automobiles ::re being provided. and for those spectators who do not motor down — and they are in the majority — special train service is promised, -with a running time of thirty-five minutes from Pennsylvania Terminal to Belmont Tark Terminal. In short, no pains are being spared to provide for the big fields of starters which are assured, particularly in the Gr.Mt United Hunts Steeplechase, witli Mb ,000 purse, and for the big crowds which the number and character of the events and participants are likely to draw.
