KING NEPTUNES GOOD MCE WINS THE WILMINGTON STAKES AT HAVRE DE GRACE WITH EASE. Between Us Outsprints Imperator and King Worth — Videt, Luther and Tactless Bid Up After Winning Their Races. Baltimore, Md., April 19.— The fourth running of the Wilmington Stakes was offered as the outstanding feature of the card at Havre de Grace this afternoon. The race was for three-year-olds at a sprinting distance, brought together a good band and resulted in victory for J. S. Tyrees good gelding King Neptune, with Prohibition and Eddie Henry in close attendance. The winner was ridden by J. Metcalf. began slowly but finished with great speed and was drawing away at the end. Prohibition also showed a capital performance, coming from the rear to take second money after being bumped by Vermont at the start and forced to work his way up on the outside. Apart from the stake race, an overnight handicap, also at a sprinting distance, resulted in a stirring finish in which J. Lumsdens Between Is managed to get up in the closing strides to take Imperators measure. The latter drew away into a long early lead, but was tiring badly at the end. In each of its three years, prior to this, the Wilmington Stakes was won by an excellent three-year-old and its condensed history is as follows: Year. Winner. Wt. Jockey. Val. The usual six -race program was offered and well matched fields contested the various races. The racing on the whole, was spirited with driving finishes. Speculation was brisk throughout the afternoon and the majority of the winners were well supported. After the victory of M. Smarts Videt in the third race he was bid up to 05. an advance of 00 over his entered price, at which figure he was bought in. Sam Louis was responsible for the bidding. Luther, winner of the fifth race, changed hands following the running, being . sold to N. L. Snelson on the latters bid of 00. an advance of 00. Samuel Lewis of New York, was the first bidder, the Samuel Louis of Kansas City, took a hand, followed by Snelson. R. F. Carman, before the running of the Wilmington Stakes, sold Achievement to W. Viau, in whose name and interests he ran in the race. Al Weston is sick with a severe case of the grippe. The horses of F. Ambrose Clark arrived at Fim-lico today from Aiken, S. C. They are all well advanced. White Metal, of the Joseph E. Davis string, has been schooling exceedingly well since Matt Brady moved him from Benning to Pimlico with the others of the stable. Pesky. Edward McBrides good filly, is on the sick list. James F. OHara, general manager of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association, was an interested visitor at the track today. He said that he expected that a spur from the Pennsylvania track to the Bowie course would be completed for the fall meeting there. Jockey J. Hanover was suspended for four days for crossing with Meddling Miss in the first race. A like suspension was imposed on Ward for crossing with Brave Cunarder in the second race. M. Viau. it is reported, paid 0,000 for Achievement and he also purchased Gaiety, said to be useful. Mr. Viau is a brother to Miss Winifred Viau. who purchased the speedy Skeer Face from the Nevada Stock Farm at New Orleans. Tactless, winner of the closing dash, was also made the target for the runup brigade, being advanced to 00. an advance of 00 over the entered price, and sold to G. A. Alexandra.
