INDEPENDENCE HANDICAP NOMINATIONS. La tenia. Ky.. April 22. — The coming Latonia meeting has as its chief feature the Latonia Derby at a mile and half, but one of its good races for three-year-olds and over is the Independence II ndicap with ,500 added at a mile ami three-sixteenths, which will lie decided on Tuesday. July 4. Like the Latonia Derby, which has several horses engaged that were not entered in any of tin- Louisville stakes, the Imle|M-ndence Handicap has also racers named that were not entered by their owners in the earlier handicaps on the Kentucky tracks. The IndeiM-ndem-e Handicap has always been productive of a good race since it was first inaugurated in 1910. This is one reason why manager John Hachmeister has in the last four years increased the added money to the event to ,500, which has resulted in making it, with the exception of the Kentucky Handicap at Douglas Park, the richest race for three-year-olds and over on the Kentucky circuit tracks. The event was iu»t raced for in 1912. for the reason that that year the Latonia meeting closed without having the Fourth of July in its racing dates. In 1910. when Pinkohi won. and in 1911. when the race was captured by Countless, the race was at a mile and a sixteenth, but has since been at a mile and three.- sixteenths, it being changed in 1913. Its Winners since it has been at its present distance have Iteen Milton B.. Black Toney and Prince Hennis. and its record at its present distance is held by Milton B.. it lieing 1:50%, which is the American record as well. There are sixty-two entries this year and they embrace representations from the stables of many prominent eastern as well as western Kentucky owners. The list follows: R. L. Baker and Co.s br. h, John Guild. 5. by Peep oDay My Gyps.
