FEATURES OF PROPOSED CHICAGO MEETING. Racing to Cover Thirteen Days and to Be Conducted P Without Betting — E. C. Hopper Asked to Preside. Having returned from Kouisville, racing secretary Ieters gave Daily Kacing Form an outline yesterdiy of some of the determined features of the proposed meeting of the Illinois Jockey Club, at Hawthorne, beginning Saturday. July 1. ¥ According to Mr. Ieters the meeting is to be " of thirteen days and no more, which would bring it to a close on Saturday. July 15. The overnight purses will be 00 and 00. with a program of six races daily. The price of admission will be * for men ami SI for women. The main race of the meeting will l e the revival of the American Derby. It will l e run over its old-time Washington lark distance of a mile and a half and be a race of the guaranteed value of 0,000. Other closed events are contemplated, terms of which will be announced in due time. The Hawthorne track is now being harrowed daily and will be iu condition presently. The track rails, Judges stand and floor of tie- grandstand call for repairs, and will be overhauled and renewed. The roof of the grandstand has already 1 n repaired. The stables will also fee placed in order and mad4 fit for sheltering the horses. Kd. C. Sapper, :i widely -known and competent official, lias been tendered the position of presiding judge. James Oshornc is to Ix- the starter. He has been an assistant of starter Morrissey and has had much experience ,,n the tracks of the far northwest. Horsemen who have raced under him Kay he is fully comp-tent to discharge the exacting duties of his position satisfactorily. M. N. Maefiirlane, formerly secretary of the Memphis Joi key Club, and W. K. Xorvoll. of Chicago, are experienced a ad reliable men who may be added to the staff of officials. J. S. "Tony" Wallace Is to be clerk of the scales. Hut the San Francisco meeting of last year was conducted along the same line and was lavishly patronized. I lie promoters kMpe for a similar [ recognition here. The racing will begin at 2:30 p. in.
