PIMLIC0S GOOD MEETING IS CLOSED. Close Finish of Four Noses Apart Marks the Feature Race — Rhomb Takes the Steeplechase. Baltimore, Md.. May 17. — The feature of the getaway day card at the Pimlico course, a dash for two-year-olds, developed the closest finish of the met ting. The first four flashed by the judges noses apart, with Meddling Miss, Savilla and Owaga placed in the order named. The race was full of thrills and, had it not been for the fact that jockey McAfee was weak, Owaga might have won. The winner paid a handsome return as did the socend horse, bath being neglected in favor of Dr. Nelson which finished fourth. From the head of the stretch to the end the youngsters were driving hard and tin- winner remained undecided until the official placing was displayed. The consolation steeplechase at two miles gave the timlier toppers final opportunity and Bhomb. from the Garth stable, was the one to be returned the winner over Cynosure and Cu Bon. Bhomb feared poorly, but showed plenty of speed on the flat. Selling race activities broke out afresh this afternoon and resulted in several changes. Following Duke of Dunbars victory in the third race he was sold to Kal Parr for 00. which was an advance of M over his entered price. Broomsedge, which scored in a mild drive with Harry Lauder, was sold to U-wis W. Garth for ,000. an advance of 00. The card offered for the dosing day brought out small, but well matched, fields. The racing was spirited throughout and several close and exciting finishes resulted. Heavy rain which fell again last night made the going slow, but there were few withdrawals. The crowd which journeyed to the course for the closing day was in keeping with those of other days. Jockey McAfee was taken suddenly ill before the running of the fourth race and. after fulfilling his engagement in that race, cancelled his remaining mounts. Frank Garret, after an illness of a few weeks, died at the Mercy Hospital last night. His body will be interred in one of the local cemeteries. Garret, when taken sick was acting as agent for jockey A. Schuttinger. Frank J. Bryan, A. B. Dade, Joseph McLennan, Melvin Allen and Harry Nelson were among those that left here for Toronto tonight. Mr. Dades assistants. Lynch and Snyder, also left. Greetings was claimed out of the seventh race yesterday by J. W. Hedrick. The big string of jumpers that Lewis Garth is training for E. R. McLean will remain at Pimlico until shortly before the opening of the Saratoga meeting. It was supposed that they would be turned out at the McLean farm in Virginia until the fall. The horses that Lewis Garth owns will be sent to Toronto in charge of his father. B. W. Walden announced that he would ship his stable to the Douglas Park track on Wednesday next. J. W. Dayton will send his two horses. Slum-herer and Bloodwin. to Montreal some day next week. Promoter has been sent back to the Dayton farm, where he will be fired and rested until next fall. Jockeys R. Troxler and A. Schuttinger will ride as free lances on the New York tracks this year. Yellow Sally is back in the J. K. L. Boss stable. After she won this afternoon Captain Presgrave bid her up and secured her for ,500. The filly was entered for ,200.
