THE RETURN OF THE BLACK AND YELLOW. It is eight years since a Woodbine crowd had the opportunity to cheer a victory for Mr. Seagram in the Kings Plate, though for a long period earlier the Waterloo horses were annually the dominant figures in the event which all Ontario breeders are so anxious to capture. He was not daunted by a long siell of ill fortune and never ceased his efforts to break the spell. By all appearances his hour has returned. He had last season the best-looking lot of home youngsters that Waterloo could boast of in many years. Five were named for the Plate this year and though "the whole fleet" will not go to the post for this event it is possible that three may run. and equally possible that all three may lie in the money at the finish. This has never hapiM-n d in the history of the Plate, though Seagram horses have lieen first and second and first and third ia several occasions. That would lie a real "come-back." The field is likely to be a ■lO one and the contention will have to come from Old Pop and Last Spark. Giddings Armine. looked on in the early stages as the dangerous one. has not progressed in her preparation in a way to satisfy her trainer and she may be sent for the mile and a sixteenth journey of the Maple Leaf Stakes, in which she meets only her own sex, rather than the mile and a quarter of the Plate against all comers. — Francis Nelson in Toronto Globe.
