SEAGRAM WINS ANOTHER KINGS PLATE. Runs First, Second and Third with His Candidates for Canadas Most Prized Race. Toronto, Ont., May 20. — Joseph E. Seagrams entry finished one-two-three in the Kings Plate at Woodbine this afternoon. This a record that has never been duplicated. It was the first time in eight years that the colors of the president of the Ontario Jockey Club has been seen in front. Mandarin made a show of his opposition in todays race. Pickens rushed him to the front directly after the start and. taking a long lead on the turn into the backstretch. he had the colt under restraint after going a half mile and at the finish cased him up to a canter. Gala Water was second and Jala Day third. The mile and a quarter was run in 2:12. A. D. Parrs Sun King proved an easy winner in the Woodbine Steeplechase, while Hocnir made a runaway affair of the Minto Selling Stakes. A tremendous gathering turned out, the crowd being much larger than many anticipated. Many notables were gathered on the clubhouse lawn and the opening was a notable social event as it has always lieen. Many of Ontarios first families were present and handsomely gowned ladies and well groomed men promendnded on the lawns. Jos. Mcl nnnu was notified by the Connaught Park Jockey Club that they had decided to change the name of the Capitol stake to the Chateau Iaurier handicap. Kntries to the events to be run at the Ottawa meeting will be closed on Saturday, May 27. Among the visitors at Woodbine this afternoon were D. Raymond of Montreal, and Kal Parr of Maryland. Isith of whom have extensive strings quartered here. James Arthur has purchased the contract that E. J. McGraw held on jockey M. Mountain. C. W. Campbell has turned over the three-year-old Shrapnel to James Arthur. A. It. Bresler, who formerly handled the colt, shipped his horses to New York at the close of the Iimlico meeting. Peggy L., which went lame, has been fired and turned out. Jockey Ambrose was granted a license by the Canadian Racing Associations to ride for the Thorn -cliffe Stable only. Edward Baxter was an arrival from Windsor. He rejKirts that all of the improvements at Windsor have been fully completed and that visitors to that course will lie surprised at the changes. A handsome entrance has been built, which adds greatly to the appearance of the place. The seven-eighths chute was completed last full after the meeting closed and six large stables have been constructed in that part of the enclosure known ns Saratoga. Twelve more machines have been added to the miituel plant and as many new wickets provided for additional cashiers. Windsor promises to, have the greatest meeting in the history of the club this year.
