May 27. — Notwithstanding the cloudy -mid threatening weather a crowd conservatively ,-estimated at SMM attended the races at Belmont Park todav. The big stand was packed and at least 3.000 lined the fence of the infield, which , was free. The sale of the Duryca horses at- . traded all the big buyers and breeders from all j over the country and the prices realized indicated a bright future f..r the American thoroughbred, j The chief attraction was the juvenile stakes for • two-year-olds, onlv seven entries were carded but John K. Madden and V. J. Brockmillcr added l c- , fense and Solve ig. . , The first victory for the Wickliffe Stable in the east went to the credit of Folicidad and. inci- . dentally, it was the first time the old Dwyer colors , have been seen in front in many years. August Belmont uncovered a pood two-year-old | ill the Freneli colt Hourlcss, when that colt won | the fortieth renewal of the Juvenile Strikes for two-year-olds in cam:- fashion. The winner was closely pressed by Ivory Black from the Butler stable, but staved well under a strongly-ridden finish. Julialon was third. The race was worth ,900 net. . . The J. . Talbott stable accounted for two of the afternoons winners when Pandean and Vermont scored. Itntll horses were quoted at good odds and won like tiny were the liest of their respective fields. Pandean accomplished something that has not been witnessed at Belmont Park for | some time when he ran to the outside fence on entering the stretch, hen won by a s-ifc margin. Vermont beat Benevolent, an importation of Oscar I Lcwisohns. John W. Gates was a visitor today .and spent the afternoon in the clubhouse. The horses of 11. P. Whitney are due to arrive at Helmont Park from Red Bank. N. J., to morrow and will be. seen under colors shortly. i Shortly before the running of the fourth race a rain of "short duration arose driving the crowd on | the lawn to temuorary shelter.
