BRILLIANT OPENING AT BLUE BONNETS. Waakoag Proves the Winner of the Kindergarten Stakes — English Sprinter Defeats A. N. Akin. Montreal. Que.. June 0. -The opening of the Mon-trael Jo. key Clubs meeting brought an immense gathering at Blue Bonnets to witness the sport. Tae club provided all enticing program of seven races, with the Kindergarten Stakes, a dash of five-eighths for two-year-olds, as the feature. This nice brought the largest field of the afternoon to the poat, twelve facing the barrier. The Ottawa Stable furni died the winner in Waukeag. whi h caate from behind to b--.it ?.I.niokin four lengths. Yellow- Sally, the pacemaker, was a tiring third. Dr. Nelson was -..tight in the webbing when the harrier was released, which forced Byrne to pull him up. The going next to tin inside rail was good, while the remainder of the track was lumpy. It dried out rapidly as the afternoon progressed and should be fast tomorrow. Apart from the Kindergarten Stakes, a steeplechase over the two-mile course and a handicap at me mile wer-- the attractions. H. G. Metcalf was an arrival from Belmont Park tliis morning and will remain on the Canadian circuit for the rest of the racing season. Metcalf has made no connections here and, for the present, will rid" as a free lance. G. Byrne was granted a temporary license by the stewards and had his first mount ou Billy Frew in the opening race. .1. Clancy got in from Tijuana, where he has been riding all spring. He. too. made appli-ation for a license. These applications will be passed on at the meeting of the stewards of the Canadian Racing Associations tomorrow. S. J. Davis has been engaged to ride the iumpers in the Red Bank Stable. Among them is the good fencer Garter. J. Temple Gwathmoy and his bride were arrivals this morning and will remain here for several davs. Mr. Gwathmey has several likely steeplechasers here in charge of Gwyn Tompkins. One of them, Rupica. is carded to start tomorrow. W. L. Crosby, of Boston, another steeplechase enthusiast, was also an arrival. He, too, has some jumpers in the Tompkins stable. Paddock judge John Mackenzie got in from Piping ltock with Frank J. Bryan. Among the arrivals from Toronto were T. J. Bird. C. J. Kean and C. A. Crew. Starter A. B. Dade was unable to resume his duties at the barrier and his place was taken by Phil T. McGinnis. Mr. Dades assistant. William Snyder, will be here Thursday morning and, in the event of Dade betas unable to fill his imsitiou by that time, Snyder will take his place.
