FRIAE ROCK REVERSES PLACES WITH SPUR. Takes the Long-Established Belmont Stakes Under a Good Ride — Bacs Amateur Cup. New York. June 10.— Friar Rock won the rich Ilclmoiit Stakes from Sour and Churchill at Bel-niont Park today. His victory probably was due-to Haynes action in making a perfect turn out of the Belmont e-ourse into the main course, whereby he saved about six lengths. Spur was leading at the time, with Churchill a close second and Friar Rock two lengths off. In almost a fraction of a second Haynes shot Friar Rock across the track and in less than fifty yards secured a lead of three lengths, which he maintained to the end It is more than probable he would have won anv way, as Spur and Churchill were leg wearv at the end. but the move Haynes made insured the winning of the race. Chicle, as expected, was never prominent after the real racing began. All four starters were under restraint for the first seven-eighths. An average Saturday crowd visited Belmont Park today notwithstanding the weather was cloudy and threatening. Several well backed choices " went down to defeat during the afternoon. The failure of Yankee Notions in the first race started the talent off wrong. The Parsons horse succuinliod in the stretch when he apiieared the probable winner. Armament won. it being his second win over an odd-cm choice wihtin a few days. Montresor went to the post a decided favorite over Prince Henry for the see-ond. but the latte-r was returned the winner. Montresor showed his usual speed in the early racing, but tired badly when the winner challenged. Bac made good with ease in the Amateur Cup in which gentlemen riders rode. Admirably ridden by Mr. J. Tucker, he held sway from the start and was never menaced. It was a hard drive between Top Hat and Yirile for second place, the former landing. After Armament had scored in the first race he was advanced from 00 to 00 by Emil Herz, but was bought in. This followed the claiming of Ida Claire some time ago by II. J. Morris the owner of Armament. The stewards of the National Hunt and Steeplechase Association have passed a rule requiring all riders to wear colors when schooling horses through tin- field during racing hours. J. H. Madigin. W.
