CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. There is an epidemic of coughing in E. R. Bradleys stable at Latonia. The fast colt Paddy Whack is training well and may be seen under colors shortly. Arthur Douglas, who rode in Ireland during 1915 for G. II. II. leard, made his appearance at Jamaica yesterday and will apply for a license in this country. He can ride at 100 pounds. Waterblossom has two more stake engagements during the present Latonia meeting, being eligible to the Quickstep and Independence handicaps, the former lwing set for Saturday, July 1, and the latter for Tuesday, July 4. Albie Smith, who was a prominent Australian rider, has come to this country with the intention of remaining here. He will ride temporarily for James McClelland while looking for a permanent engagement. He can ride at 100 pounds, and is said to be skillful in the saddle. Ban Johnson. American League magnate, was astonished, when he visited Latonia on Wednesday, with the magnitude of the plant, its equipment and the patronage bestowed on the s|M rt as compared with what it was twenty years ago, when he re-ixirted the races there for a Cincinnati newspaper. Mrs. Nettie Arlington is getting together a stable of thoroughbreds with the view of organizing a racing stable. It was for her that former jockey-Ed Garrison bought three two-year-olds at the San-ford sale, and she is on the lookout for some youngsters of a better class. Garrison will train for her. Frank Taylor, who is training W. S. Kilmers thoroughbreds at Gravesend, says that although the handsome imported horse, Alluuieur. by Meddler-Strike-a-Light. which was purchased at the Mackay sale for 1916.sh,000. had been entered for the Brooklyn Handicap, it is not probable that ho will start him, the horse not being ready for a hard race. The Montreal Driving Club, the Mnisonneuve Driving Club, the Back River Jockey Club and the King Edward Park Jockey Club each donated 0 to make up a purse to be given to Mrs. Prendergast. the widow of the late jockey J. Prendergast, who died at Montreal this week, and help the widow pay expenses in taking the remains of her husband to his home at Claiborne. Texas. The pari-mutuel equipment installed by the Con-naught Park Jockey Club is said not to be surpassed anywhere for convenience, adequacy and the satisfaction of the public who use it. The building is large, light, airy and easy of entrance and egress. Excellent accommodation is provided for the working staff, .and it is difficult to see how the plant could be improved, say good judges. J. D. Adkins. trainer for R. J. Mackenzie, was called to Toronto this week by the death of his sister. His mother is in a critical condition. The big string of horses he has in charge will be shipped from Louisville to Fort Erie shortly. This will be the headquarters for the stable while on the Canadian circuit. From Fort Erie several horses will be shipped to Hamilton, including the English colt Faux-Col. which is entered in the Hamilton Derby.
