LATWIA RACING SUFFERS HEAVY GOING DETRACTS FROM ITS ATTRACTIVENESS AND CAUSES A SUBSTITUTE RACE. Sansyming Falls in His Race — Frigerio Continues His Winning Career — Hanovia Defeats Grover Hughes — Good Horses for Hawthorne. i Cincinnati. .. June 19. — Track conditions at Latonia this aftrruoon were about as bad as could he and detracted greatly from tin- racing. Considering Unit rain was again in prospect, the patronage was good and the spei illation was also of surprising volume. Because of the bad going it became necessary to declare off the original fourth race and ■aether was lnirriedly substituted to fill the program of seven contests. Crowding was responsible for a fall in the second race. Sansyming and jockey Goose licing the victims. but luckily Ixith horse and rider escaped injury. The fall came just as the horses were about to make the first turn. There was a jam at this stage of the racing due to a scramble for positions, and Sansyniiug. which was well forward, went down in a heap. John W. Klein, on which Murphy had the mount, and favorite for the race, was directly in the path of Sansyniiug and managed to avoid a fall, but might just as well have been eliminated in that way. as Murphy, for a good rider, committed the blunder of pulling up and deliberately turning in the saddle to note the fallen horse and rider. Had he continued on with the others he was close enough, after the mishap, to still have a good winning chance, but after pulling up lie was completely out of any chance and his mount only cantered around the course. In the Avondale Handicap at one mile and an eighth. Hanovia showed a return to her good form when she came from far back to get up in time to overhaul Gmver Hughes. The latter was regarded as best of the four that started and showed high sliced, but found the route a bit further than he cares to go. Bourbon I ass ran as if much the best in the opener and won with consummate ease over Ginger Quill and Little Spider. Feint was favored for this race but was never a real contender. W. H. Bakers crack colt. Frigerio. had comparatively an easy time of it in the third race, for which lie was the shortest priced favorite of the meeting, lluford give him a stout argument during the first half, but when Goose called on the Baker colt he drew out quickly. The substitute race was only a canter for Sosius. which led from the start and won as his rider pleased. W. H. Baker bought the mare Bcno at private terms this afternoon. He also bought from Matt, Carr and Young three yearling bay colts, sired by Master Robert, Sweep and Bourbon Bean. J. W. Fuller was among todays arrivals and will remain for some time. It is his first visit to Kentucky this year. Horsemen an eageily awaiting the arrival of Martin Natlianson, racing secretary of the Illinois Jockey Club, who is expected to furnish complete information regarding the proposed racing at Hawthorne. There is a demand for stake blanks. Dodge and Franklin are among those that will be entered for the American Derby. George Smith will not. He wil be shipped to New York tonight to remain for the rest of the year.
