FURORE FIRST IN THE IRISH DERBY. The Irish Derby was run at the Curragh June 28 and was won by the brown colt Furore, by Fugleman Rappel, with King Robert second. Brandon third. Ten started with Furore the favorite . at 2 to 1. Concerning the race. London Sportsman of the next- day said: "Although horses . trained in England finished first and second yesterday for the Irish Derby, both of them were bred in Ireland, the winner, Furore hailing from - the stud of Captain Greer, while the runner-up. King Robert, was bred at Tully. There were ten - runners, but they were not a particularly good lot, and neither of the first two is within over . a stone of the best English form. On his spring i form King Robert held Furore safe, but the latter has improved a good deal since he was only . seventh to the King in the first spring week at l Newmarket. He is moreover, a good looking colt, and there was no flaw in the way in which he j caught and defeated Col. Hall Walkers colt yesterday in the run-in. Ity Fugelman out of Rap- i pel. Furore is the first horse ever owned by Mr. H. Ellis, who is to be congratulated on winning so im- portant and valuable a race as the Irish Derby at the first time of asking."
