; . J - - 1 HARRY KELLY VICTOR IN WHIRL STAKES. Schorr Not So Fortunate with Ed Cramp, Which Is Beaten by Capra High Noon Fails. Xew York, July 15. The card at Empire City today was replete with features, including the Whirl Stakes, for which there were seven starters, including Harry Kelly, Master McGrath, Ticket and Sortie. After a few minutes delay, they were sent away with Harry Kelly anil Master McfSrath showing in front. Harry Kelly was closely followed by Friendless for the. first half mile, then the latter quit and Deer Trap began to close up on the lenders, having stolen through along the rail. It was all Harry Kelly could do to withstand the challenge of Deer Trap, which showed great game-ness. but the Schorr colt Steele it out. Master Mc- Grnth hail no mishaps and could not keep up at the pace. The same can be said of Sortie. As usual. Master McGrath had to have a "twitch" put on him by an assistant starter to get him to the barrier. Harry Kelly was docile at the post, contrary to his custom The Schorr stable also sent Ed Crump to the post in the second race, a handicap at one mile and seventy yards. The horse was well backed, but met rlefeat by .Capra, after darner had waited with Ed Crump until too late. When. the Schorr horse was called on in tin: stretch he made up much ground and probably would have won in a few more strides. High Xoon met with much bad luck in the running of the Fleetwing Handicap, being pocketed for nearly three-eighths. He Will started off with a long lead and none of the others even approached him. As soon as High Noon got clear he made an effort, but could not get to the winner. Jacoba began last and ran around into third place, but was leg weary at the close. Coquette was in the middle of a group of four for the first three-eighths and then bled just as she got a clear course. J. W. Schorr after the victory of his good colt Harry Kelly in the Whirl Stakes said: "In my estimation the colt is not within HO pounds :is good as he was in Kentucky early in the season. Had he been at the top of bis form I am confident he could have ran perhaps a second and a firth faster than he did." Charles J. ODell of Savannah, was an arrival today. Samuel A. Spencer arrived from Hamilton and spoke highly of the recent meeting there. lie returns next week to assume charge of the mutual machines at Hamilton. J. W. Hedrick and S. J. Baioechi both entered a claim for Libyan Sands after the first race. A draw resulted for the colt and Hedrick was successful. The purchase price was ,4150. The protest of the claiming of Sam McMcekiu by S. C. Ilildrcth was not allowed and J. W. Hedrick retains possession of the former Belmont racer.
