SECRETARY BEIFIELDS STATEMENT. Secretary-treasurer Beifield of the Illinois Jockey Club made the following statement after the close of the meeting: "The meeting lias been one of great achievement in many ways. It revived racing in Chicago after twelve years of waiting. It revived the American Derby, which was always considered Chicagos greatest event. "Financially, the meeting was a success. The receipts from admissions alone exceeded the running expenses. It was only the unlooked for expense in getting the race track in condition after twelve years of disuse that prevented the Illinois Jockey Club from paying its subscribing members a dividend, at least, on their subscriptions. At nil events, it has proven that Chicago wants racing, and will support it. Racing has come back to Chicago to stay."
