HAMILTON FAVORITES PROVE FAILURES. Langden Wins tho Nursery Plate for J. B. Rospcss and His Rhyme Takes a Purse. ,., Hamilton, Ont., July 29. Surprises were the order at the Hamilton track this afternoon. Secretary Loudon furnished a well arranged program for the Saturday half -holiday race-goers. Those fortunate enough to pick the right ones received hnndsome returns. Old Pop. winner of the Teek Handicap, paid his backers 89.10 in the mil-tuels. J. B. Respess furnished two of the winners in Rhyme and Langden. The formers victory came with the running of the opener, while Langden Accounted for the Nursery Plate, a dash of three-quarters .with ,500 added. Incog was a prohibitive favorite for this race and made a sorry show ing, being beaten three lengths by Atwell for second place. The Birmingham Handicap was crowded with incidents. First, the favorite Rancher was poorly ridden, and then two of the six starters. Father Riley and Raincoat, fell. The mishap occurred on the stretch turn where Father Riley went down and Raincoat fell over him. Botli of the riders. T. Hayes and W. Obcrt were shaken .up and Raincoat was knocked out and dragged off the track on a flat. J. O. Keene departed for Saratoga this afternoon. He arranged with his brother to ship several two-year-olds to the springs, and they left tonight. The shipment included Yermilla, Basi-lus, Petrovna. Pulaski and Katenka., Yermilla is a candidate for the Spinaway Stakes, and it was mainly to have her fill that engagement that Mr. Keene went to Saratoga. Jockey J. Metcalf was another departure for Saratoga Springs. He has signed to ride for the Macomber stable for the rest of the racing season. The following yearlings, the property of the William Hendrie estate, were disposed of by auction in the paddock at the Hamilton track this morning: Flame, eh. f, by Charles Edward Flicker; J. Whyte Kittwake, eh. f, by Charles Edward Lintie; J. Whyte 000 Border IMver, 2, by Martimas Sally Cohen; T. Murphy 25 Several of the horsemen here have announced their intention of shipping from Ottawa to Haiti-more to be on hand for the Maryland State Fair meeting at Timonium. The dates for the latter are from September 5 to September 9. Five claims were put in for the two-year-old Rhyme after he won the first race and in the drawing G. L. Strang secured the colt for ,050. The other claimants were W. Stonnont, Sam Louis, C. T. Worthington and G. A. Alexandra. Jockey T. Rice suffered a bad fall when Privet Petal fell in the opening dash. He was unconscious when carried back to the jockeys room, but soon recovered. An examination showed that lie was only shaken up.
