CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. Registrar W. H. Rowe of the Jockey Club, is enjoying his annual vacation trip to Maine. August Belmont has given orders to have twenty of his thoroughbred yearlings shipped from the Nursery Stud to Saratoga. Johnson and Crosthwaite report the death of the two-year-old Ed Morrow, by Bon Brush Lass of Wheatly. The colt had shown some good trials and was promising. In the Mount Vernon Handicap at Empire City, Pleione, by permission of the stewards, wore blinkers. She seemed to be wholly unaccustomed to them and, being caught in the barrier, was as good as left at the post. John L. Paul, the veteran trainer, dted at his home on Pemberton avenue, Lexington, Ky., Monday night, July 21, after an illness of long standing. He was sixty-eight years old. His three sons are well known upon the turf. At the Newmarket Second July meeting sales, July 17, Mr. John Sanford was the buyer of the fine broodmare Signorinella, by Thrush Signorina, giving ,200 for her and her filly foal by St. Victrix. It was the top price of the clay. Signorinella is a seven-year-old bay or brown mare and a half sister to the Epsom Derby winner Signorinetta. Herbert Temple of the Adams Express company said Thursday afternoon that, with the shipment of W. R. Coes valuable thoroughbreds his company will have handled forty-six carloads of horses sent from the Long Island tracks to Saratoga for the meeting, which will open Monday. He estimates that Saratoga will have not less than 1,200 horses for the coming meeting. In the race for the Dunwoodic Handicap Friday. Grant Hugh Brownes five-year-old horse, imported Gunbearer, by Fowling-piece Weybridge, was jumped on as they were rounding the first turn and considerably cut on one of his hind legs. The injury is not serious, and it is probable that his work will be not more than temporarily interrupted, but is is not improbable that it had much to do with the showing he made in the race. The St. Georges Handicap of ,000 was run at Windsor. England. Saturday, and resulted in an easy win for Lord Derbys Phalaris, ridden by Martin, by six lengths ahead of L. Neumanns Argos, with Wlially in the saddle. E. Hultons Torloisk, with J. Childs up, was third three lengths behind. Thirty-two entries were received for this important handicap, but OHly eleven horses went to the post. The betting was: Phalaris, 7-1; Argos. 2-1, and Torloisk 6-1. Lambton trained the winner. At Windsor, England, last Friday, the Royal Borough Handicap Stakes of ,500 was the feature race at the July meeting. The meeting, which was scheduled for last month, was cancelled through the death of Lord Kitchener. Fridays big event was won by Col. Hall Walkers Black Adder, with Bui-, lock in the saddle, which beat J. Dawsons Jack Annadale, ridden by Donohue, by a head. Captain Murrays Clematis, with Gardner up, was third, two lengths behind. Ten horses went to the post. The betting was: Black Addar, 0-2; Jack Anna-dale, 5-2, and Clematis, 8-1,
