CAMPFIRE THE FUTURITY FAVORITE. Saratoga, N. Y., August 15. Pets at S to 5 have been made and accepted that Campfire would win the Futurity Stakes at Belmont Park on Saturday, September 2. With the race three weeks away, these wagers would tend to show the confidence nice track followers have in It. T. Wilsons great colt to win the richest event of the American turf. Campfires great victory in the Saratoga Special Saturday is the chief topic of conversation among turfmen. It was the general opinion that he is the best colt of the year to date and that, barring an accident, he will win the Futurity. "I never owned or timed a faster colt than Camp-fire," said Mr. Wilson after the race. "He did something that surprised me. He ran the second quarter of the race, around the turn, mind you, in "2 seconds. I dont think any other colt or any three or four-vear-old for that matter has shown such speed in a race this year. The track was a trifle slow, due to the rain, and the performance was all the more remarkable." Because of his victory in the Special, which was worth more than ,000 to the winner, Campfire will have to pick up a penalty in the Futurity.
