SPLENDID RACING AGAIN SARATOGAS OFFERING REPLETE WITH INTERESTING AND SPIRITED CONTESTS. Frizzle Shows Something Approaching His Form in France RegTet Wins in a Canter Mr. Schorr Sells Ed Crump and Two More Good Ones. By J. L. Dempsey. Saratoga Springs. X. Y., August IS. The Saratoga Association offered its patrons this afternoon a program of overnight races that brought into contest several high-class horses and provided entertaining sport. The handicap at seven-eighths was contested by many speed sprinters and it resulted in the first victory scored in this country by the French-bred horse. Frizzle, owned by the Oneck Stable, lie showed a good performance in racing close up in the fast pace set by Blind ISaggage and Hank ODay in the early running and when it came to the linal drive gradually passed the Bradley sprinter and won going away. Tin; latter barelv saved second place from the fast coming Ilarrv Shaw. Hank ODay was the favored one, but his heavy impost, coupled with tract iousne:;s at tho post, was responsible for his failure. II. P. Whitneys champion filly Regret was in with an ordinary band in the third and she simply smothered her opposition to win as her rider pleased". Tin; winner was held at extremely short odds ami the running justified it. Emerald Gem was regarded with high favor in the steeplechase, but never figured in the running. The winner turned up in Sandow, with March Court second. .1. S. Wards ISerlin was making his initial eastern start in the opener and though showing good form, succumbed after a hard stretch struggle to Burlesque. Backers of Shyness, an overwhelming favorite in the fifth race, were given an anxious period because of the action of Shilling who tried to draw the finish fine and by doing so nearly threw the race away, as Goldcrest Boy, finishing with a great rush, only missed overhauling her by a nose. The winner was entered for ,200 and was bid up to ,000 anud bought by L. W. Garth. Thomas Welch will leave for France September 1 to prepare for shipment to this country twenty-five thoroughbreds, owned by .1. K. Widener. Eighteen of the youngsters were recently bought from M. Edmund Blanc. The horses, on their arrival, here- in about six weeks, will be taken to Belmont Park where they will be wintered. Emil Iters racers will be shipped to Belmont Park. Sunday, to rest until the opening of that meeting. Trainer .T. S. Ward has put a price of .1,000 on Dodge and several prospective customers have ; been angling for his transfer. The highest offer that Mr. Ward has had for tin; colt is 0,000. ; "Xot a cent less than 0,000 will buy tin; colt," said he, in commenting on the probable sale of the horse. On the recommendation of starter Cassidy the stewards modified jockey Shillings five-day suspension and allowed him to ride this afternoon. States attorney Maelay Koyne of Cook County, Illinois, and judge John E. Owens were among todays clubhouse visitors and will remain here for several days. "We will soon have something approaching this in Chicago," said judge Owens, referring to the splendid patronage and keen interest in the sport. Charles AV. McCullough, president of the Parma-lee Transfer Co., of Chicago, and Charles AVeegh-man, owner of t.ie Cubs, were other prominent Chicagoans arriving this morning. They will remain for some time. A. M. Orpen today concluded negotiations for the rental of twenty-seven pari-mutuel machines from John Hachmeister to be used at the Xew Kenil-Avorth Park track at Windsor. The machines will be shipped from Latonia. Henry McDaniel, who will train the W. S. Kilmer horses, wired to R. MeDaniel, his nephew, to assume charge of the racers pending his arrival, which might be postponed until next Monday. John W. Schorr sold this morning the horses Ed Crump. Dick Williams and Hank ODay to A. K. Macomber for 5,000. Hank ODay ran this afternoon for his new owner, but was saddled by trainer George Land, who will also saddle Ed Crump in tomorrows stake race. The ominous clouds that threateningly hovered over Kentucky racing last spring are again making their apiK-arance. Several owners this morning intimated that they would withhold their entries from the stakes in the event that a certain official is retained. Several of the owners sent in conditional entries to stand if the official in question does not serve. If he retains his position, the entries are to be void. John Hachmeister, who is here, refused to make any comment on the affair. Mr. Hachmeister departed tonight for Xew York to pay a visit to Sam Adler, formerly identified with Cella-Adler-Tilles. Mr. Adler recently met with a serious accident, his automobile being struck by :i train and his wife and himself being injuind. Since his retirement from racing he has been the heart of a prosperous mercantile business in Xew York. Horsemen will not be able to quarter their horses at the Jamaica track next fall, on account of the improvements to be made on it, which wil include the covering of the grandstand. The Aqueduct track will be utilized by the horsemen instead. Work-outs today over a fast track were: Affection Three-quarters in 1:18. Relieve Me Roys Three-quarters in 1:10.
