NOTES OF THE TURF FROM OTHER LANDS. The San Sebastian, Spain, stewards have decided that during the remainder of the meeting no owner will be permitted to run more than two horses in the same race. Last year the net profit of 5,000 was made by the Victorian Racing lull, and the whole amount was given to war funds. During the year 00,-00! was paid away in stakes. Up to riding Tagrag to victory in the High-Class Two-Year-Old Stakes at Lingfield on Saturday, August .1, Donoghue had ridden thirty-two consecutive losers, lie subsequently left for Ireland. We see from Le Sport Beige" that the King of Spain evidently intends owning race horses on an extensive scale, for he lias just acquired fourteen more race horses, which have joined the royal string under the management of M. do Neuter. London Sportsman. Immediately succeeding the conclusion of the meeting at San Sebastian on October 15 there will be an important international meeting at Madrid, extending over a period of four weeks. The chief event will be an Omnium of 0,000 and there will be numerous races worth ,000 apiece. Freiherr S. A. von Oppenheims good stallion, Sapliir. recently broke a leg and was shot. Saphir was foaled in Germany in 1893. and was got by the imported French sire Chamant. He won all his four races, inclusive, of the Austrian Derby, which he seemed after breaking down in the race. At the stud lie sired a German Derby winner in Desir and many other good animals. Kilbroney, which was bred in Ireland and raced with much success in England, promises to make a successful sire in New Zealand, where the first crop of hi two-year-old are doing credit to him. At the Canterbury meeting his son Killena won the Autumn Nursery Handicap, and on the same day another of his stock, Kibby, won the challenge stakes of ij-3,000. Kilbroneys fee is fifty guineas, and besides Ids owners mares, he is available for ten public "mares. King Alfonso scored his second success on the race course at San Sebastian on Tuesday, July 25, when his horse Le Bitto, ridden by Milton Henry, upset all expectations in tiie Prix des Orangers and won in a canter by six lengths from Mr. Jefferson Cohns Spirt and Mr. W. K. Vanderbiits Royal Eagle, with four others unplaced. Mr. W. IC. Aan-derbilts Megaphone, ridden by ONeill, finished first in the Prix de iAvenir. which he won by half a length from Mr. Cohns Dinant. At San Sebastian on Tuesday, August 1, the chief event, the Prix Gladiateur two and one-half miles, value 240 sovereigns, was won by the King of Spain who races as the Duke of Toledo with Roi de la Lande ONeill, which was followed home by a stable companion in Botticelli M. The entries for the Irish Derby, Irish Oaks and Irish St. Leger for 101S obtained a gratifying measure of support. The Irish Derby obtained 120 nominations, which is only eighteen below the record subscription. The Irish Oaks, with eighty-four entries, fell short by only one of the previous best, while the seventy-eight nominations for the Irish St. Leger are oifly five short of top figures.
