CUERENT NOTES OF THE TURF. W. O. Jopliu claimed Ponce de Ion from G. W. J. Bissell upon the occasion of his last start at Saratoga. The American horse Oversight, which II. P. Whitney took across the Atlantic when he first invaded the English turf, is getting along in years, but can still run a bit. At the Newbury meeting, August 12. he won tin? Twyford Selling Handicap from tewnty-seven opponents, beating Ravello by a head in a close finish, and was at 10 to 1 in the betting. Besides the seventeen yearlings for A. K. Macomber already reported, the Miniic-haha brought over two yearlings for Samuel Ross of Washington, a broodmare and foal for P. A. Clark of Xew York and sixteen thoroughbreds, mainly broodmares, for Grant Hugh Browne of Goshen. N. Y. Mr. Ross yearlings are as follows: Bay colt, yearling, by Grey Leg Marie Claire: grey filly, yearling, by Grey Legs Princess Caprice. Mr. Clarks importation consists of the bay mare Springfain, 8. by Sainfoin Combe. She has a foal at foot by Lem-berg, and is in foal to Polymelus. About the Kentucky Stable is a curiously assorted trio. A small Japanese Chow puppy, a well-grown Airedale terrier and an extremely-small Brazilian monkey; all of them are females, and they are inseparable friends. The curious part of this curious alliance is that the tiny monkey never is satisfied except when she is stretched out on the back of the Chow puppy, half hidden in her deep fur, and when the stable boys take the monkey from her resting place, the puppy is restless and unsatisfied. The Airedale does not at all understand the wherefore of this curious attachment between her two friends, and is constantly nosing about inquiringly; but never appears to think of snapping or even threatening the little Brazilian, which does not hesitate to use teeth or claws upon any living thing which attempts to separate her from her cozy lounging place on the little Chows back.
