He can go to scale at 105 pounds. July !, the Russian Derby was decided at Moscow, Mr. Mantasehefts .Macbeth, by Macdonald II., by Bay Ronald out of Hallin. winning. The winner was ridden by J. Winkfield, who rode a splendid race. There were only six runners, the smallest field for twenty years, on account of a lot of horses coughing. All are at Newmarket. The September Stakes, substitute for the Doneaster St. Leger, will be run at the Third Extra meeting. At Palmcro Argentine on July 7. one of the crack South American four-year-olds won the Premio Chacabuco 12,000 pesos over a distance of one mile and seven-eighths in the excellent time of 3:10. The winner is by Gomba destine, Coralle is by Bayarrio Cosette, and Aversion, which belongs to the Grariitz Stud, is by Xuage Antwort dam of the good four-year-old, Anschluss, anil the three-year-olri, Adresse. Reducing the money added to the Melbourne Cup from 0,000 to 5,000 has not lessened the popularity of this truly remarkable race with horse owners says the "Australasian". AVhen the entries were made up it was found that the total was a record for the race. When the cup was instituted in 1801, the added money was a modest ,000. and there were several much richer stakes in Victoria: but the Melbourne Cup at once became an inter-colonial affair, and almost from the time of its inception it has been indisputably the chief racing event of Australia.
