3 , , : i , i I ATTRACTIONS OF L AT ONI A RACING. Recently Closed Stakes Have Filled Well and a Great Meeting Is Expected, Latouia. Ky., August 20. The nineteen days of racing given by the Latouia Jockey Club next ati-twni will be the first fall meeting of. similar duration in the history of Kentucky racing where on each day with, no purse less than 1916.sh00, there will be on the program card a race with added nionev of .,000 or over. Since restoring the Latouia Cup as the big feature race of the autumn meeting at this course. Manager Ilachnieister has bended every energy to making 4 the event the most important of fall racing on the Kentucky circuit tracks. To make this tmssihlc he has this year added to this stake the liberal sum of ,000 in added money. This is oiily exceeded in spring and summer racing in Kentucky by the amount added to but three other stakes, two of which are the Derbys and the other the Kentucky Handicap. AVith the exception of two years iu the history of the four-mile Kentucky Endurance Stakes at Churchill Downs, the Latouia Cup now has more added money than tiny race ever run iu this state in the autumn. The entries in this rich two miles and a quarter race closed on August IS, and the liberal patronage from the great racing stables has caused a record entry list. Aside from the S5,000 iu added money, as is usual, the owner of the Avinner will receive a beautiful solid silver trophy, to manufacture which has never cost the Latouia Jockey Club less than $."00. All other stake races at Latouia have also been the recipient of record-breaking entry lists, these being the Latouia Autumn Inaugural Handicap, Fort Thomas Stakes and the Autumn Stakes. The latter race ami the Inaugural Handicap are for three-year-olds and over, while the Fort Thomas Sttikes. a handicap, is for two-year-olds. The Fort Thomas Stakes is the only stake race for horses of this age during the fall campaign iu Kentucky which is not under selling conditions. It is an event that litis always drawn out an excellent .field and a majority of the starters iu the race annually have figured the following spring as prominent among the candidates for the Derby and Oaks races. The fact that Latouia will have no racing opposition throughout its fall meeting, with the exception of the Laurel track in Maryland, will result in a record number of horses being on hand for the coming nineteen days of the sport at this flourishing truck. Many new improvements have been made in the stabling section of the grounds at Latouia and, in spite of the unprecedented number of horses that it is anticipated will participate iu the racing, the best of .quarters will be found available at this track by horsemen, regardless of the number that may apply. There has never been a race track in this country that has made more rapid strides than Latouia since it has been under its present management. The surrounding local people have become in love with the races annually held in the spring, early summer and autumn at this course and it draws from the world outside at every meeting, patrons and lovers of racing of the highest grade. Leaders of society now daily take advantage of its handsome clubhouse accommodations.
