SATISFACTORY KENILWORTH PARK OPENING. Large Crowd Patronizes the Big New Track and Is Rewarded with Excellent Racing. Detroit, Mich., September 2. The new Kenil-worth lark track was auspiciously opened this afternoon, with a representative crowd, which filled the spacious plant comfortably, in attendance. The piunL in general, showed more completeness than was expected. The sport was interesting and the program was run off with promptness and dispatch. A feature that appealed to the huge crowd was the excellent transportation facilities. Trains from the heart of Detroit, carried them directly to the grandstand and there was no confusion attending the return trip. The volume of betting, while not so extensive as at the Windsor track, was of goodly amount and will increase steadily when the form of the horses is established and the track gets settled. The scarcity of riding material here will serve as a drawback for this meeting. In the fifth race a change of three riders were necessary because those originally engaged did not have enough lead to complete the weight. Some of the finishes were exceptionally close, that in opening race being particularly so. The new claiming method worked well. Foxy Griff being the only one to change hands, George Phillips becoming his new owner. Lily Orme was also one of the winners that was intended to be claimed, but. G. A. Alexandra tendered his check instead of cash and the stewards ruled that the claim was not valid. President R. R. Ganiey. M. P. P., expressed keen satisfaction over the auspicious opening and was highly enthusiastic over the induct of the sport. A. M. Orpen. who controls the majority ol the stock said: "We are well satisfied with the beginning and we look for increased patronage lailv. Our plant compares with the best in the Dominion and the facilities for reaching the track are superior to any. II is my intention to beautify the plant and make the surroundings park-like m appearance and we feel sanguine that we will have the support of turf patrons in this locality. , 1 1 , 1
