EMBROIDERYS FAST RACE TIES THE LEXINGTON RECORD AT A MILE AND A QUARTER AND DEFEATS KILLANNA. Scarcity of Horses Shows in the Entries and Accounts for Small Fields Dimitri Wins from Fast Sprinters Again Track Gossip. Lexington, K.v., Sept. 12. Arthur 15. Hancocks Embroidery showed :i return to her best form in winning the ,1100 Hartland Handicap today after :i hard drive to shake off McAdoo. Incident-nlly slie equaled the traek record of 2:03 for one mile :ind :i quarter, held by Indolence. E. R. Bradleys Irish mare Kilhinua was an outstanding fnvorit" and flattered her supporters during the early part of the race by lending and seemingly able to draw away further from the others at her riders call. When the stretch turn was readied she was challenged in resolute style by Embroidery and to the amazement of the majority of. the spectators succumbed readily and continued to fall back during tin stretch racing. In the last eighth McAdoo forced Embroidery to her top speed and might have beaten her at a longer distance. Todays card was made up of the smallest fields that have started on a Kentucky track in years. The shortage of racers at the course is severely felt and is directly responsible for the small fields. Fears of being run up in selling races are also deterring horsemen from entering more freely. This combination of circumstances is accountable for only six races being offered for tomorrow, secretary Shelley, after much effort, being forced to call off the seventh race for lack of entries. The limited number of starters caused an increase in speculation, as the bettors were prone to invest with more confidence. In the opener Dimitri repeated a former good performance and won after a mild drive. Droll lauding in second place and Ilocnir just getting up for third money. The Baroness was the favored one for the second and she. just managed to win from Bessanta. Stearns, on the latter, claimed a foul against the winner, but the judges did not allow it. Commnuretta proved best in the third race and won from Surpassing. She was in for 00 and was advanced a similar sum by II. Fink, but owner Weber made the necessary protecting bid. Owner .1. S. "Ward came over from Louisville to attend the sale or yearlings at T.tttersalls tonight. He stated that Franklin and Norvie shipped well from Saratoga. The horses will, hereafter, race in his name, as Mr. Weber will devote all his attention to his business in Kansas City. Trainer W. Clancy brought nine racers from Louisville yesterday that will be raced in the interest of the WyeklilTe Stable. They are Acabado, Basil, Picric, Felieidad. Moliorn, Passing Fancy, Vogue, Paddy Dear and Coquette. The latter is the only mature racer in the band. They will be shipped back to Louisville at the close of racing here. Edward McBride, who developed George Smith and other good racers, was an arrival today from Maryland to attend the yearling sales.
