AUSPICIOUS HAVRE DE GRACE START. Capital Attendance and Good Racing Mark the Opening of the Maryland Campaijrn. Baltimore, Mil., September 12. With an attendance of goodly proportions and a display or enthusiasm, such as always greets the return of tin thoroughbred in these parts, the fall racing season in Maryland was officially opened today when tiie Havre de Grace course entered upon its seventeen days fall meeting. The enormous Baltimore and Philadelphia patronage was augmented by delegations from New York. Canada and the Maryland half-mile tracks. All expressed approval and were delighted Witli the aspect the course presented, as a result of the many noticeable improvements which" have been installed, of which the train approach and the inn-tuel machines were the most noticeable. The new spur of the Pennsylvania Railroad permits patrons to alight, right at the grandstand main entrance, without the necessity of the long walk they had to take heretofore. Tin new inutuel machines recently installed are of the same type as those at Laurel, which were used last spring, and the manner in which this department was conducted gave great satisfaction to the big crowd. In fact the entire plant now presents a much-improved appearance and, with the track in first-class condition, excellent racing can be looked forward to. The course itself has always been popular witli the horsemen. Additional stables have been built and everything treated to a fresh coat of paint. Tin racing today, while not attracting horses of the high rank, furnished good sport throughout.
