ANOTHER MACOMBER RACE 1 HANK ODAY WINS THE DOUGLAS PARK FEATURE SPRINT FOR HIM. 1 Fine Weather, a Big Crcwd anil Good Racine Mark the Day Morristown Runs a Bad Race 1 and Gets His Rider Into Trouble. s i Louisville. Ky.. September 19 A. K. Macom- ! bers success continued today at Douglas Park, when 1 Hank ODay. tlie only starter from bis pretentious i racing establishment, accounted for the feature race of the day, a handicap at three-quarters 1 which brought out a speedy band. Maekie Daw i just managed to get up in the last stride to beat Fleetabelle for second place. Hank ODays i race was a sparkling one. for lie was badly out- paced in the early running and lost a good bit i of ground when he came wide on the last turn, lie finished in game fashion, took the lead seventy 1 yards from the finish and won by a scant, length. : Amazon was regarded with high favor for the the race, but after showing high speed until i the stretch bend was reached, gave way completely and finished far in the rear. i The good card and fine weather were factors . in bringing out another big crowd and, also, were , responsible for a large volume of speculation. The backers did not fare so well during the afternoon, for many of their selections were keeled over. They began well when Zamora beat a band of ordinary ones in the opener, but the failures of Hiisy Joe and Morristown gave them a setback. Morristowns race was particularly bad. Tokay, because of a good race at Lexington, was considered good enough to win the third, but wound up a bad last. Hob Hensley leading all the way and winning easily. A tiresome delay came in the fiftii race, due to J lit; bad iost manners of Ethel "Welles and Char-ineuse. When the field was dispatched it was to a nigged start, with the most serious offender left at the post. Miss Kruter managed to win after a drive to outstay Charmeuse. .1. AW OoiTroth, president and general manager of the Tijuana track, was an arrival and began missionary work in the interest of his hundred or more days meeting, which begins in Lower California November li. Mr. Coffroth stated that his association would give six stakes, aggregating 3,-500, with the CofTroth Handicap of 5,000, as the feature. There has been some rumors that the inutuels would be installed at the track, but this Mr. Coffroth denied and said that the ring would be open to all reputable bookmakers. He said that lie would experiment next summer with a thirty-days meeting at Tijuana with the niutuel form of wagering. Many owners from here have signified an intention of shipping to Tijuana for the racing, and secretary Edward Jasper, who will remain in Kentucky until October 2S, will give them additional details of tin; meeting and reserve their stable room. Mr. Coffroth also added that two-year-old races would be given beginning in January. The racing of two-year-olds before April at any of the winter tracks will disqualify them for racing on Kentucky and eastern courses until the following January. Green .Tones, Tom Manson and Tm Anderson, owned by V II. linker, will be sent, to Lon Jones farm near Louisville to be turned out for the winter. Trainer AV. 15. Jennings is keeping all the A. K. y Maeomber racing stars, including Star Hawk, actively at work witli a view to giving them all plenty of racing on the Kentucky tracks. After the conclusion of racing in this locality the entire band will be shipped by special traia to Charleston, S. C, where they will be wintered and prepared over the Palmetto 1ark track for their next years campaign. K. D. Williams lias signilied his intention of shipping alKiut ten racers to Tijuana for the racing there next winter. Those lie will send will be sold after the meeting is over. The stewards did not like the ride that Shilling gave Morristown in the second race and interrogated the rider at length and later interviewed owner Williams. The latter stated he did not like the ride and Shilling claimed his failure; to get to the front was due to interference. Patrol Judge Phillips said that. Shilling was the one who had resorted to rough tactics and the stewards suspended him for five days for this offense and took 1 lie matter of his ride under further consideration. J. O. Keene has arranged to go abroad next week and will make England his first stopping place. While in that country lie will make several purchases of broodmares, weanlings and yearlings.
