THE TYPE OF HORSE LONGFELLOW WAS. George J. Long, the only turfman who ever reared and raced in his cwn colors two winners of the Kentucky Derby, in reviewing the great racing stars of the present day and of other days, said the -other day that Longfellow was by odds the highest type of a thoroughbred race horse that he had ever seen. Said Mr. Long: "He is the only horse I ever -saw that could be standing with a collection of a hundred or more high-type thoroughbred .horses and would have all the crowd around him. That he was the one nhenomenon of the American thoroughbred breeding" world is fully illustrated to my mind by the fact that since his day breeders have employed everything known to the art or study of pedigree lines and high conformation and his cotm-i tcrpart lias never as yet been produced."
