3 s J i ! i i s j i j SEAGRAM. STABLE IN GOOD FORTUNE. Runs First anil Second in the Lansdowno Nursery Handicap at Toronto Aniphion a Winner. Toronto, Out., September 25. The Seagram stable, which had been in particularly good form this year, furnished the winner of the Lansdowne Nursery Handicap, oik; of the feature races at Woodbine this afternoon in Sturdee, which led his stable companion, Relic 3fahone, by a head when passing tin; finishing mark. Gala Dress, which ran coupled witli this pair, finished sixth. There were nine starters and the Seagram trio ruled at odds-on. Tin; Dominion Handicap, the other stake race, went to Aniphion. Roth of these races were for horses foaled in Canada. The afternoon was an ideal one for out-of-doors sport and a large crowd turned out to witness the racing. Large fields went to the post and, in several of them, finishes were close. The imported mare Arriet tucked up 128 pounds in the Westminster Handicap and. after passing the pacemakers in the homestretch, beat Ormulii by a neck. James Hewitt, acting for James Rarry of 3Ion-treal, has purchased the promising colt 3Ianslayer from 3Irs. L. A. Livingston. Hewitt has done right well with the Rarry horses this year, their winnings totalling over 0,000. This is 3Ir. Parrys first year on the turf and the showing of his horses must be certainly gratifying. The stable goes from here to Laurel and should cut an important figure in the racing there. Previous to the races this afternoon the eom-mitee of tin; Canadian Racing Associations held a meeting at Woodbine. Only business of minor importance came up. The suspension against jockeys C. Dishmon and II. Crawford were ordered terminated and jockey Warrington was also restored to good standing. 3Irs. L. A. Livingston was present to see the good looking filly Priscilla 3Iullens. which ran in her colors, beat a big band of maiden two-year-olds in tin; opening race. Among those which finished behind the winner were the imported colts Crepuscule and King Herod. An invitation sent to lovers of long-distance racing for subscriptions to tin; Stayer:. Cup, has met with hearty response from those who wish to foster these long-distance events. The Stayers Cup, which is at two miles and a quarter, will be run at the Relmont Park Terminal next Saturday. When the race was arranged, it was agreed that no greater amount than 0 would be accepted from any one person and no less than 103 subscriptions were sent in. This amount will be used to purchase a handsome trophy, which will be presented to the owner of the winner. The Essex Foxhounds will give their meeting also on Saturday next and all of their steeplechase races will be over a timber course. The Philadelphia Hunt has announced a days racing at Willow Grove on October 27. The dispersal sale of the mares, stallions, and weanlings owned by the William Hondrie estate will be held in Toronto, on September 27. Colin Campbell, managing director of the 3Ion-treal Jockey Club, is a visitor at Woodbine. He is acting as one of the stewards during the Ontario Jockey Clubs meeting. Three horses that started on Saturday bled in their races. They were the imported colt Grey Socks, the steeplechaser Tropaeolum and Ratwa. The last named was crowded against the inside fence on the first turn and jockey Koppleman, who hail the mount, suffered a bruised leg. Condition blanks for the Windsor Double Event, to be run at Windsor in 1018 and 1919. were distributed among the horsemen today by Edward Raster. This stake, which will close September 27, has ,000 added, besides two handsome pieces of plate. The Double Event is for Caandiiin-bred horses and the conditions are patterned after the Futurity. The two-year-old division of the race . will be at five-eighths and the three-year-old division at one mile and an eighth. Ii. II. P.axter. whose horses are scattered tween the Canadian, 3Iaryland and Cuban tracks, . was a visitor at Woodbine on Saturday. Sal Vanity, owned by 3Ir. Raxter, is racing here, Rae P.. at Havre de Grace and a half-dozen were left at Oriental Park at the conclusion of the racing tiiere i last spring. 3Ir. Raxter contemplates racing a big ! string in Cuba the coming winter and is here look-J ing for material to strengthen his stable.
