LATONIA THRIVES LUSTILY c FINE ATTENDANCE FOE MONDAY DESPITE A CARD OF ORDINARY ATTRACTIONS. i 1 Sands of Pleasure Defeats Manager Waitc in the 1 Days Foaturo Race Ima Frank Wins for tlio i ! Bevorwyck Stable: Blue Plum in Front. : i 1 Cincinnati, O., October 10. Threatening weather lid not decrcasu tlic interest in tlie Latonia racing , this afternoon, for a surprisingly largo crowd, considering it was Monday with a program devoid of outstanding features, gathered at the track. The betting was also of surprisingly good volume. The sport was highly entertaining, with several oxciting finishes. The best race was handicap at one mile and a sixteenth in -which O. M. Heudries Sands of Pleasure, showed a fine performance in beating Manager Waite. after a somewhat tardy beginning. Prince Hermis was the favored one for the race, but lie sdiowed a disappointing effort, as did Money Maker, both being bar back for nearly the entire way. The race following, which brought out. a band of sprinters, enabled the Beverwyck Stable to win its first purse, since its arrival in Kentucky when Ima Prank scored from Conning Tower, with Dr. Larrick heading the others. Jane Straith went to the post decidedly lame in this race, but -warmed out of it and had a good winning chance in the titrctch, but was forced to be taken back when liars and .Stars, one of the contenders, began to tire and swerve over. Jhe English-bred, Blue Ilum, brought to this country by Howard Oots last year, emerged from the maiden class, when she cantered home before ten other two-year-olds. An indifferent band contested the second race -with "Water War most fancied, but he fell an easy victim to Stephen It., which led by a wide margin throughout. Rhyme and George C. Love staged a gruelling drive in the third race, the pair singling out from the others and disputing every inch of ground during the final quarter. Rhyme, by virtue of being on the inside, which enabled him to save ground, managed to have a nose advantage at the finish. Rhymer was probably best in the race but suffered from interference. After George C. Love was beaten in the third race. .T. M. Henry, Jr., represented in the race by Kuebelkanip claimed him for ,503. Jockey M. Buxton today signed a contract to ride next year for the A. K. Macomber Stable. Jockey II. II. Phillips has been sent home to rest and will rejoin the stable at Charleston. P. OMeara arrived this morning with two horses. 53. II. Kunz came from Chicago with two racers and J. Kuley and F. Johns brough two each from Lexington. .1. Rubenstein bought Hester Smith at private terms this afternoon. E. T. Colton sold Spring Song to W. P. Pohnson this afternoon for ,500. After Miss Famiies victory in the sixth race, J. M.
