CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. J. S. HaAAklns claimed Syrian for ,550 out of the seventh race at Latonia Wednesday. The horses of A. A. Gregg, J. A. Seckington, .7. S. Measles, Quinlan and Higel, T. S. Parker, and W. TarneH are already quartered at Juarez. A once AA-ell-known Australian jockey in R. Ellis has just died. At one stage of his career he Avas highly successful, winning the Victoria Derby on Nordenfelt, Maribyrnong Plate on Iolanthe, Australian Jockey Club Derby on Nordenfehit and Australian Jockey Club St. Leger on Melos and Correze. A large force of men an; engaged in tearing down tho old hangars opposite the Belmont Park grandstand, and as soon as this Avork shall have been completed the lumber Avill be hauled over to "the hill," Avhere it will be used in the building of the four new training barns which are to increase the stable accommodations of the big track by 200 stalls. A large number of neAV paddocks are now nearly ready for occupancy at Belmont Park. They Avill belong to the stables of Thomas J. Healey, W. 11. Karrick, and Charles Patterson. These paddocks are down near the loAver end of the track premises, and not far from the road Avhich leads through the tunnel which runs under that straightaway over to "the hill." The adA-ent of neAV stables of horses to be AA-intered at Belmont Park has caused Trainers Karrick and Healey to abandon some of the paddocks Avhich they have been using in former years Avhen paddock room Avas not at a premium.
