PIF JR.S "NOSE" HAS WON MOKE THAN ,000 FOR R. 1. BAKER THIS YEAR j. . 4. R. L. Baker may thank Pif Jr.s "nose" for a favorable difference of some 1916.sh,000 on the ledger of his racing stable for 1910. It was that "nose" which decided the three most valuable handicaps won by this slow beginning and fast finishing son of Waterboy. which capped his good racing season by victory in the two miles and a quarter Latonia Cup. Incidentally Pif Jr. beat a pair of the seasons star handicap horses in two of these close finishes, taking the measure of Star Hawk in the Latonia Cup and winning from Hodge in the Gibson Hotel Handicap. His other nose victory was in the Laughrey Club Handicap. Pif Jr. ran seventeen races and was unplaced but once, suggesting the comment that his trio of good victories at the racing seasons windup were well earned. He was the chief contributor to a good year for Mr. Itaker. who won 8,904 in 1910, contrasted with ,554 in 1915. Mr. Bakers next best bet during 1910 was King Gorin, that sturdy three-year-old son of Transvaal Ethel Simpson, going to the post twenty-four times and missing the money but four times. Here is the record of Mr. Bakers stable for the year: Horse. Col. and Sex. A. Pedigree. 1st. 2d. 3d. Won.
