SOME MUDDY TRACK RACING RAIN MAKES BOWIE COURSE SLOW AND GIVES MUD RUNNERS A CHANCE. Water Lady Favored by the Going and Wins the Feature Race Old Billic Baher in a Canter I Meeting: at Essex Park. Bowie, Mil., November 24. The going at Bowie this afternoon was slow, and in spots it was rather heavy. This gave the horses that are partial to a soft track the best chances and, as a result, there was quite a few absentees luring the afternoon. Large and well-matelied fields went to the post in the majority of the races decided, and there was some good sport witnessed. The Military Handicap, a race for two-year-olds and over, at seven-eighths, acted as the days leading event and Mrs. James Arthur furnished the winner in Water Lady, which went to the post the choice over Marse Henry and King Neptune. The .augiter of AViterboy Duchess of Towers, which runs her best races over a track of tills kind, was as usual outpaced in the early running, but in the lr.st quarter a rush enabled her to catch the pacemaker, Indian Chant, in the last hundred yards, rial drew out to win by a length. The fight for second place was a close one, Indian Chant just nosing out Marse Henry. Crump, who rode Christie, did not give his mount a brilliant ride, as he had him down next to the rail in the deep going, then in the last sixteenth Christie was crowded out by Manse Henry and Indian Chant, which were running locked, but for this he would probably have been second, in fact, he might have given the winner an argument with a clear sailing course. The nice at a mile and a quarter was another event of interest, but it was nothing more than an exercise gallop for the odds-ou favorite, Itillie I taker. The pace was so slow that ltillie Baker was able to take the lead at the far turn, lie then ran away from his opponents, winning, after being cased up in the last sixteenth, by ten lengths. Slumber II. was the one to finish second, being a half length before Hiker. The condition books for the first week of the Business Mens Racing Association meeting at New Orleans, La., which begins on January 1, reached the track today and were distributed among the horse- men by Joseph McLennan. Announcement was made today that there will be a meeting held at Essex Iark, Hot Springs, Ark., following the meeting at New Orleans. According to the present plans of the promoters, it is the intention to open the track on February 25. which is five days after the close of the New Orleans meeting, and run for forty days, which will bring race-goers right up to the opening of the eastern racing. After Radiant Flower had won the opening three-quarters dash yesterday, he was bid up from his entered price of 00 to 700 and was surrendered by Godfrey Ireece. F. E. Kraft will race a considerable string at Tijuana next winter and they will be shipped at the close of the present meeting. Jockey Biirlin-game will go along to ride for the stable. W. T. Anderson will also race at Tijuana. .7. M. Booker, who was represented by Korfhage in the third race yesterday, claimed True as Steel out of the race for ,000.
