EL MAHDI SPRINGS A SURPRISE. San Diego, Cal., November 24. El Mahdi, fresh from Reno, annexed the feature here today from n band ofi good platers. The Voter horse won ensily all the way. Swcetdale and Custom House, the choices in the race, got no part of the money. Tap-lin lode a poor race on Sweetdale and the horse was cut oft: several times. Custom House had no mishaps. Gratitude ran in greatly improved form over his last effort to win the two-year-old race. Gladys I Am was given a weak ride by Shilling. Sam Blume, Joe Hayman and Sol Friedenburg arrived here today from New York. They will cut in shortly. Six horses got in from Texas this morning, including Orange Blossom, Vacene, Lucky Mack, Fal-bia. The Shrimp and Dr. Smoot. Fourteen books were in line and did a big business. This was ladies day and there was an exceptionally good crowd present.
