HAWTHORN TAKES THE TIJUANA FEATURE. Tijuana. Mex.. Dec-ember 10. Jockey J. Metcalf made an impressive debut here today when he lauded Hawthorn across the line a winner in the La Mesa Selling Handicap, the feature nice of the day. Hazel Dale set the early pace, but tired in the last sixteenth, allowing Hawthorn to beat her handily. Ida Cummings met with much interference, but managed to get clear in time to secure third money. John Graham was a good horse today to win the third race and Say just beat the unlucky Veldt for second place. G. Alexandra had his second winner of the day when Privet Petal won a hollow victory in the second. J. Coburn bid the horse up to 000, but he was retained by his owner. William Pinkerlon, the noted detective, was an arrival here today, as was Jim Murray of Montana, former owner of Col. Jessup. Jerry Downs, the former bookmaker, also appeared on the scene. Ray Moore has been suspended for five days because of an unusual bit of rough riding. The management, it is said, is contemplating changing the lay-off day of racing from Monday to Wednesday of eacli week.
